Many of the competitive rides are shorter distances (25-50 miles) and the
horses competing are in such good condition that there is little difference
separating them. Interference is on criteria that can be evaluated to assign
scores.

I do agree that perhaps loosing points for the area covered may be one viable
way to allow a booted horse to compete without self-inflicted injury. ECTRA
deducts all aplicable points for an area that the horse will not allow them
to examine. Why not deduct all possible points for the leg area on
self-inflicted wounds and allow the horse to compete.

Any ECTRA or ECTRA BOD members out there that would care to respond or
discuss the issue?
