I eat both of these, but don't notice any real difference
between the two, except that Gu is made by the Clif Bar
people (who make a bar that is possible to eat), where
PowerGel is made by the Powerbar people (who are masochists
and make a bar that is completely inedible)..

The banana-blitz and vanilla-bean GU flavours are my favourite -
the vanilla one particularly (of both brands), seeing as it
seems very inoccuous to your mouth and stomach.

They used to sell Gu in sommat that looked like a toothpaste
tube - that worked really well for in the saddle - no sticky
wrappers to fight with. I guess the lil' flask thingies they
sell would work the same way (except you have to mess with them
in the beginning to get them filled).

One of the cheeriest, sprightliest riders I saw at Tevis one
year, at Deadwood, claimed she was that way because she'd been
on Gu all day. It was a good testimonial. She out-trotted her
horse by a lot.

Can you live on Gu during a ride, I wonder? That would reduce
the worry of trying to get food down (and concentrate on
keeping it there) for those of us with, er, delicate stomachs
due to stupid nerves.
