Re: [RC] Pony & 5 yr. old - JANUSTUDIO

I have a just turned six year old granddaughter that wants to 'ride in the
woods' with me really bad. <g>
Her vision of a long trail ride naturally are very different from mine. She
has been riding her pony since she was four by herself. Now she is graduated
to my 14.3 h, drag his feet Arab gelding.
She hasn't gotten the hang of posting yet either, but Jack puts up with it as
she ends up just standing in the stirrups. She just loves to trot. So far she
has just done about 2 1/2 miles at a time and loved it.
When she was younger she let me know when she had enough quite freely. I
can't tolerate whining <g> So, when that happened, we didn't stay out so long
thereafter. Then she started wanting more and more on her own, without
    whining.
She says she wants to be an endurance rider. We'll see. . .

So my advice is, let her ride as long as she is comfortable and she will
always enjoy it. Kids, especially girls, seem to get just as much enjoyment
out of grooming as riding. That's OK, it's a good time to teach parts of the
    horse.

"That doesn't look like a frog to me!" says she. <g>
