I'll weigh in since I've been OT on a 25.

Don't change the rule. The reasons I was overtime included tough course
(winning time of 4 hours!), started at the back of the pack (the muddy trail
was incredibly churned up), didn't make time on the flat when I could have,
missed a couple of turns, and finally, didn't bring a horse who was up to
doing THAT trail on THAT day in 6 hours. I was one of 4 or 5 who were OT.
Some stopped at the vet check because they knew they were going to be OT.

BUT, about 2/3 to 3/4 of the riders finished within the 6 hours. They really
accomplished something. Hats off to them.

I don't regret the experience. The views were incredible, it was a tough
trail and my mare learned (at least temporarily) that she is not invincible
(sp?) and I learned a LOT. It was a day well spent.

    Deanna

did "his" first LD ride this past October (Foothills of the Cascade). When we left out of the last loop I only had 2 hours to do 13.5 miles. I knew there was no way I would finish on time. I told the RM that I was still heading out and finishing the ride and that I would be OT. We were over by an hour. But my horse did well, looked great and we had fun. Now if that was my seasoned regular endurance horse who usually does 50's in less than 6 hours I knew I could have ridden differently, but not a four year old. Just my opinion.
