RE: [RC] Finish Line question for LD Riders - Bob Morris

Well, I guess there will be some that will not care for my
thoughts so they can delete at this point.

I thought this was a competitive event. You have a measured
course, you have a predetermined maximum time established
for the distance and you have the horse and rider. The
predetermined time is very reasonable but it is possible
that one could exceed this time. Thus the competitive
nature. The possibility of failure to complete the distance
in the required time. The nature of competition.

So in this enlightened day and age, society has made it
unfathomable for someone to fail. We have reached the age of
mediocrity where every one is deemed successful.

Please, I thought that endurance competition was a bit
beyond this. I thought that endurance competitors were
stronger, had more fortitude, were leaders not whiners.

Guess I must be wrong. I wish I were not.

Steph There is one falsehood in your posting. <<<to find a
    way to allow LD
competitors 6 hours to complete the event, but not
    disqualify riders that
finished the physical course in 6 hours, and took an
    additional amount of
    time to reach pulse criteria....

They had not finished the course in six hours as they had
not met criteria. Meeting criteria is part of the course.
Yes, they finished the trail but not the ride. The rationale
as stated then allows six hours and thirty minutes to
completion. I am sorry but our rules say six hours for
    twenty five miles.

The original rationale for the proposed change was to find a
    way to allow LD
competitors 6 hours to complete the event, but not
    disqualify riders that
finished the physical course in 6 hours, and took an
    additional amount of
time to reach pulse criteria. This change would enable that
    since their ride
time is calculated based upon when they cross the finish
    line, not when the
pulse criteria is met. If the BC forms for LD were also
    changed, to specifiy
that the pulse time was to be used, not the ride time, would
    it then be an
    acceptable (or desirable) rule change?

    Steph...

OK, I'll bite...what is the rationale from the proposer for
    making the
change? Statistical? Easier for the Ride Manager? Why
    would we want to
base BC score on THAT time instead of placement time? I
    must be missing
    something here...
