Re: [RC] Actors Who Can Ride-- possible spokespersons - Linda B. Merims

There are alot of interesting points in here:

Somebody who does fund raising for equestrian
advocacy sat me down at the recent National Trails
Symposium and gave me some reality lessons.

She explained that one has to realize that there are
hundreds, if not thousands of people who "want a
piece" of these people--whether money or reflected
glory. Anybody with stature and/or money eventually
grows layers and layers of "flappers," people whose
specific job is to insulate the celebrity from these
    constant demands.

Indeed, the wealthy all eventually spawn legal
charitable Foundations to whom they subcontract
the entire problem of handling the distribution of
their charitable funds. These charities usually
have a Director and a specific charter that lists
the charitable enterprises that the entity is interested
in supporting. Very often, this person told me, that
charter lists things like art and symphonies and
world hunger, but says nothing about anything
to do with horses or equestrian pursuits--even
though the family/person is heavily involved
    with horses.

Any appeal to these people gets intercepted by
their flappers, redirected to the charitable foundation,
then rejected by the Director who, accurately,
claims that horses aren't part of his charitable
    charter.

    Dead end.

    More later...
