Re: [RC] Actors Who Can Ride-- possible spokespersons - Bette Lamore

Patrick was supporting the endurance races in the Middle East (there was a picture of him riding his mount in last over the finish line bareback at one of the big desert races). He told me that he was pulled near the end of the race but desperately wanted to finish. He begged the officials, and as he could see the finish line, he said he would slowly walk his horse. well the officials took his saddle off his horse, saying "no" and Patrick jumped on his horse bareback and completed the race at a VERY slow walk. He felt doubly bad because his original horse was unable to compete this day so a girl graciously donated her horse to him. He sensed she really wanted to ride the horse herself but insisted that he take him. Then his horse would not go over this tiny stream of water and someone wound up spending a lot of time helping him overcome the horse's fear--- that is why he was so far behind-- he is a very good rider. With all that trouble at the beginning of the ride, he just wanted completion. He impressed me as a VERY compassionate and gentle soul. My kids were sooo impressed and after he shook Stacie's hand, she said she would never wash it again (thankfully that was a promise she didn't keep.).
Also Pat and Lisa, his wife, have sponsored several Arabian flat races, I believe at Los Alamitas and a couple back East. Haven't heard much of his horse involvement since he had the big auto (or cycle?) accident which laid him up. I just saw him in a movie and he looks different-- needed facial surgery I guess.
He might be a good one to be a spokesman for endurance (if you can get past his sec who guards him like the Queen). Everyone is very protective of him as he has such a big heart and tends to overextend himself. Perhaps someone in the LA area would know of contacts. When I was at his house, Michelle Phillips was there as well (she was married to Barney and both were track trainers)-- she has since gone in other directions, I've heard, but as she sold some of his Tammen offspring to the sheiks, she probably is still in good graces.

BTW, I met Patrick when I was videoing his trainer's
horse (Rita McNair) at his place. ...The only problem
he has is when he shows (like at Scottsdale),...
He did it to sell the posters to make money for the
    youth classes...

Sigh...I keep talking actors and trails and everybody
else seems to want to talk about actors and beefcake,
    but I'll keep going anyway.

Now the interesting thing here is that we have
an actor who loves horses, Arabians in particular,
and they are even willing to do charity work to
improve the state of their discipline, but they
have gone down the *show* path instead of
    the sport horse/distance horse/trails path.

Anyway to redirect his attention? Like, is he
having trouble with getting land to ride on?
Does he ever go out on the trail network they
are building in Scottsdale, whose development
was initiated by the horse people there? Is there
any way to make our issues into his personal
    issues?
