Re: [RC] beaches - Lynn Kinsky

I was wondering ,is there any place in the U.S. where I can ride my horse along the beach and in the ocean? I know some places have laws against this ,example:Hawaii. Sue

There are several places in central California.

In Santa Barbara there's beach access at Arroyo Burro (http://www.sbparks.org/Scripts/ParksDetail.asp?ParkID=1) and good riding up the beach for a couple miles to More Mesa. There's also beach access at the new Goleta park just east of Sandpiper Golf Course.

My favorite riding is up along the beach at Grover City/ Oceano -- just off Hwy 101 at Arroyo Grande. Several miles of big wide beach, plus lots of trails through a dunes area (just watch out for cars on the beach -- there is a nearby OHV area).

There is also beach riding at Montano de Oro State Park outside of San Luis Obispo, but it's rockier than the others.
