    Someone once posted a trick that involves clipping a leadrope to the front
    of the saddle, on the off side, running it under the front leg and back up
    to the saddle, where you hold it in your hand as you mount.
    
    Sounds weird, but we tried it and it worked! Even Shadow who doesn't suffer
    fools well, had no problem with this technique. Once you are on, let go of
    the rope and reel it back in from the snap end.
