[RC] Electric paddocks - Libby & Quentin Llop

I strongly support Howard's point of view. Horses need to wander around ,
loaf , roll, hang out with their friends and graze if we are lucky. We have
had very good luck with the electrified white rope. No loose horses have
ever run through our paddock, even when they very badly wanted to visit our
stallion. There is not a lot of difference between electric tape and a
surgical saw if a horse gets a leg over it and runs. We also use a real
fencer , not the toys packaged with "corral kits" It is rated to run 10
miles of fence and does a great job on a few hundred yards ( if I remember
to leave it out in the sun for a few days before a ride). If there is a
halter that can hold my son's pony Mitch, I haven't found it yet. We have
joked about trying a bull ring in his nose for ride and tie. While both
sides claim the moral highground, one of the great appeals of endurance
riding is that there is no thought police telling us just how to manage our
horses. I have been told by a humane officer ( in Canada, at an event) that
I cannot hobble or picket my horse, and have been reported for tying them to
the trailer.A state forest (in N.J.) didn't let us use our electric because
it would be a hazard to children in the campsite. If we were to start on
what sort of fence to use at home I suspect the controversy would be even
    greater.

Libby and Racqueteer ( who has no extensor tendons in his LH leg after an
    encounter with electric tape)
