FW: [RC] [RC] Exempts private property, military lands and all plant lifefrom ESA (fw - Mike Sherrell

"Some maintenance" is not equal to bulldozing habitat, clearcutting or
having cattle trample streambanks. What is the opposite of "ecofreek" --
    earthkiller?

I do believe that between Mike and Maureen we have a couple
of Ecofreeks that do not "live on the land" and realize that
    some maintenance is necessary.

Scraping out creekbeds is ecocide. Don't have to be a
    fanatic to know that;
all you have to do is ride by one before (birds, bugs, fish,
    all kinds of
    animals) and after (sterile).

Perhaps you haven't had experiences of having your private
    property
controlled by the ESA, but we have. I'm sure this is a
    two-edged sword, but
as property owners, we are getting quite tired of having us
    restricted from
doing what we need to do on our own land. We can't clear
    log jams out of
creeks, to prevent flooding and erosion during the winter
    time, because
removing the jams might cause harm to the fish in the creek,
    etc., etc. I,
for one, am ready for some sanity in the government. And
    it's very
difficult to negotiate with the fanatical environmentalists,
    because they
don't want to learn anything new; they already think they
    know it all.
Maybe things are different in Reno, but in a radius of 100
    miles or so of
the San Francisco Bay area, with all of its tens of
    thousands of city
dwellers, they believe theirs is the ONLY WAY. Urban sprawl
    should be
controlled in some other manner than denying private
    property owners the
right to manage their own land. I'm all for controlled
    building, up to a
point. But when it costs a person $70,000 in building
    permits and all the
"studies" that are necessary in order to remodel an existing
    house, and when
it takes several years to finally obtain the permit, then it
    is a society
gone berserk. One of our neighbors had to relocate the site
    of the house
they wished to build because of a wildflower that someone
    decided was going
to be threatened. The neighbor had planned to build the
    house out of sight
of the public road, but in the end was forced to build on a
    hilltop in
conspicuous sight of the road. And it's a rather ugly
    house, to boot.
