Re: [RC] ridecamp - Howard Bramhall

Ah, passion!  Don't you just love the passion that is displayed here on Ridecamp time and time again.  I, for one, cannot get enough.  People have died over passion; they've killed because of it.  And, here on Ridecamp, it can initiate some really cool cat fights.

It's a given we all care for our horses.  It appears some of us may care a bit too much, because this passionate love we have for them has taken some folks over the edge to the point where they are unable to interact with a certain type of human if that other human dares to disagree with their views on horse keeping.  Is this really how we want to lead our lives?

Come on, folks, can't we be a bit more open here?  Do we really have to get this worked up about someone else's thoughts that we have to leave the building?  In a huff?  And, try to take others with us?  This is not what I meant when I said middle aged endurance riders enjoy the sport so much because it helps them find their lost youth!

I'm never leaving.  Say what you want, do what you want, in the end it might just be me, Steph, John and that woman from North Georgia.  If that's all that's left I'll at least have two folks to talk with.  I will be here till the place shuts down completely, no matter what you guys say about anything.  Lately, there's only two words that set me off where I lose it more than I should.  Those two words are "dead horse."  Other than that, I think I can deal with anything else ya'll throw out there for consumption.

I've learned one thing from these years on Ridecamp. What I learned is, "I know nothing."  Absolutely nothing!  This concept frees me of a lot of responsibilities, this uncanny ability I seem to possess where I have admitted to myself that I don't know squat.  That's why I read each and every one of your posts, even the ones from California.  I am here to learn.  Not to teach, not to preach, even though I might take a stab at those things once in awhile, but, my reality is I really "know nothing."  This knowledge of self helps me keep things in perspective.

I hate to see folks leave (especially in a huff) but my guess is they'll be back.  Or, they'll try and set up their own shop on Yahoo somewhere, and come to find, all the other endurance riders are still here on Ridecamp.  Then they'll be all upset at some folks they thought were their friends, who didn't leave with them, and the cycle will start all over again.  I'm telling you, that lost youth thing, with endurance and horses, is a reality when grown ups act like this.

I tried other sites (I had little choice during my suspension), and came to discover what I already knew (besides nothing).  Like it or not, this is the biggest game in town. For those of you who are a little thin skinned, I do have a suggestion:  Leave your ego in another room in your house before you turn on that computer, cause when you log on to Ridecamp it will just get in the way.

    cya,
Howard (insensitive, maybe, but, no matter what happens, I will stick it out till the bitter end)

Running is their JOB? They CHOOSE to keep going...because they understand that it is how they earn their position in the community????? Wow...and what kind of LEADERS are we...???? Because these world class horses will follow us anywhere....does that give us the right to push them to their absolute limits...because it is their JOB and we are their LEADERS?  If my horse (friend, partner) falters because of my lack of ethical leadership...I am embarrassed and ashamed in the eyes of my horse...ask his forgiveness and try to do better by him next time.
"They have to uphold their part of the deal or all bets are off"?? And our part of the deal is only to make sure they are well cared for when not competing??...What is our "part of the deal" when we are riding them??...competing via their "wings" for our own ego gratification?  Their wings are no good to us if our egos, and lack of compassion cause the sky to be taken away (that is a quote from somewhere)

I too am out of here..this is not a "community" of which I wish to be a part.

Horses CAN choose not to run, but these horses choose to keep going. They
understand that running is their job, how they earn their position in the
community. It's their job, for gods sake. Some of you may not understand
that, but somehow these horses do. Horses understand the stark reality of
life better than we do because of their awareness of the constant presence
of unseen predators. They understand that we're the leaders who

...... geez it keep going  "seen pedators" are  Man.
"choose to keep going "  No choice  in the hand of the rider.  yes they do get well taken care of  but i dont think many know how to ride them.
i sorry to write  you but im just getting this out  and  ill have to stop reading ridecamp like most of my friends got rid of it  it got too much stupidity.  now should we bring back Cliify Lewis?        se
