    Sharing expenses can lead to some legal issues.  Most autoinsurance policies don't care as long as it is a sharing basis, not a money maker.  Some states do.  A number of years ago the state of WI passed a law or regulation that required a livestock haulers license if any compensation was given for hauling horses!!   If you want to be legal you can not share expenses in WI.  It is a really stupid law/regulation, but that is the way it is.
     
     
    PS. I haven't heard anything for a number of years so it could have changed.  I don't know (or particularly care )
