[RC] Conditioning in Winter - Blanket Questions - Tamara Alice Murray

    Hello again...more questions...

Thanks to everyone who replied re: Conditioning, Sweating and -40 C Weather.

I think I will have to invest in a good wool cooler and super heavy duty blanket. Any suggestions? My horse will be on pasture so what type of blanket works for you guys? I was thinking I would get a 1600 or 1800 denier if I could find it. Is a liner necessary? Also, do you use a FULL wool cooler (that goes all the way up the neck)? Does it dry adequately between rides or do I need to get two and alternate them? Is a rump rug necessary for warming up, even if riding mainly indoors?? Also, a few of you mentioned clipping. If he is kept outside should he be clipped (and blanketted of course) and what type of clip is recommended? Should he be clipped differently if ridden indoors versus being ridden both in and outdoors? I would appreciate any leads as to good deals on blankets if anyone knows of any.

I have ridden indoors in the winter a lot before but this is the first year I will be keeping him outside AND working him relatively hard and regularly so I need some tips! I will be conditioning him partly for endurance but also partly for eventing as well (if all goes well).

Sorry I am full of questions but I like to pick your experienced brains.

    Thanks again,

    Tamara
