Re: [RC] Bringing a foal to a ride - John Teeter

A footnote to this, Randy Eiland sent me a note saying that Rule 6 part k addresses the ponying issue. "...Not having been paced,
prompted, or aided by an unentered, withdrawn, or otherwise unauthorized equine.....".

I think it then becomes a ride management issue as to the authorization of the equine, and if not authorized, then it would be a violation to pony. If RM authorizes it, then it would not be a violation.

The phrase, "...or otherwise authorized..." is the key.

At Steph's Owhyee Highcountry 100 over labor day, the tail-end hundred miler was going out after dark for the last loop and Steph decided it would be safer to have someone ride along. She sent Kruschev and the riders husband out with the stipulation that he stay behind the entered rider. Neither Kruschev or her husband were entered in the event.

Both were authorized by the RM to accompany the contestant for safety reasons. Thus no rules violation.

Do ride managers have the lee-way to make decisions in this regard?

    johnt
