RE: [RC] Very young riders in AERC rides - Maryanne Stroud Gabbani

    Title: Message
I watched an 8 yr old going on 40 compete in a jumping competition against real 40 yr olds. My first thought was "You MUST be kidding!" but that kid was one bloody good horseman....better than many of the adults. They don't come along frequently, but when they do, you notice them. He was on a big roan mare in his body protector and helmet, and at first I assumed that he was just along for the ride. But the mare didn't like one fence so he circled her and cleared it the next try. Kids like this are one in a million, though.

One child stands out in my mind as I read all of these ideas, etc.  Each child is different and the child I am relating to is one that came to my farm.  I had a arab mare for sale, and this 5 year old (going on 40) came in with his dad.  Dad did not ask one question, it was all the young one.
