Hi ! A friend of mine has a mule with white line disease in the left front hoof. This was puzzling to us, because the stalls are the cleanest in town, the dirt is decomposed granite, brought in in the past couple years, and kept fresh and dry. The mule always had a tendency toward thrush. Now she has this disease and the shoer had to remove the front of the hoof this week, its pretty scary looking. The mule looks happier though, much more cheerful than she was. My friend has been reading about White line disease on line, and came across and idea to spray it with a 1:70 solution of glutareldehyde-alcohol, three times a day for a couple weeks and "it will go away". I told him, better ask the vet first before trying that. They use the gluta....for sterilizing delicate surgical instruments, he tells me. Anybody heard of this idea? Or any other ideas you'd like to share about White line disease? Will this mule be rideable ever again, with a disease like this? Thanks...Beth Glover
