    [RC] getting lost - terre

Following trail markers is certainly a 'learned skill'--this is why many newbies get lost on trail that experienced riders consider to be well-marked. New riders need to learn how high to look, what kind of tree, bush, etc is likely to be marked and in what manner (ribbon, pie plate), etc.

The best way to learn? Volunteer to mark trail! Once you have had the job of marking trail, and looking for appropriate places to put ribbons, you always know where to look to see them. I can't tell you how many times I've approached a given tree branch, to find the stub of last year's ribbon still on it.
