    Even the best rider can get tossed, or the horse can fall under her/him, or a low-flying branch can
    clock you in the head.  Skill can't save you every time.

    I'd really hate for anyone to get the idea that they are too good
    to need a helmet.  Sh*t happens: be prepared.

    You got THAT right! The BEST riders have the good sense to protect their brains. As an old friend put it shortly before his death. "I ain't got hair to worry about, and I figure if ya'll don't protect your niggins, well maybe there's nothin' there to protect". This from a cowboy.

    At the same time, no doubt a ton of riders out tehre desperately NEED better equitation skills, if only for the sake of their horse - you know, the one carrying their flailing person about?:) Skill and experience can and does offer some protection - and in this sport why would you NOT want to do everything you can to ensure your own safety? (well, other than vanity.)
