    How would it do that?

By giving them all day long to finish 25 miles you're more or less saying, "This ride is only for walking, so don't worry, you have all day to finish. Normal endurance rides don't apply to the LD."

I don't see anything wrong with this, depending on ride management. Some of the rides need to shut down a vet check and move personnel. Our ride does not have that problem and we could easily let them have all day.....

Then, the BC and other awards for 25 miles would seem kind of silly.

    I think they are anyway.

I think most LDers would want the time to remain as
    > it is. They like the idea that they really are competing.

Only a few of them. The rest are treating it as a training ride and/or they just can't go that fast for some reason or other.

Now for my newest idea. And this is from a lond standing opponent of LD so pay attention Jeanne....I am changing my mind.....I think we should just drop the whole LD section of rules and put it back under the regular rules. The people that are going to race will race, if it is a 2 mile ride. The people that go to finish will do just that. Just like an ordinary race. We tell people it is a training ride and then tell them that if they race for top ten, they can show for BC. How much sense does that make.
