    >I have some permanent human hair color that I'm not >going to use on me.
Got the idea to dye my horse's tail. >Comments? Like, will it make his tail
fall out? You can >reply privately. :)

No, it won't fall out, but the colors don't necessarily come out quite the
same. And the reason why I know that <vbg> is because lo these many years
ago I owned five-gaited saddlebreds and owned a truly fabulous horse that
could outrack anything on the west coast except for Skywatch and Imperator.
Problem was, he was a red roan, an "informal" color in a "formal" class and
the west coast judges would NOT pin anything other than a bay, chestnut or
black in the gaited classes. After getting stiffed in some qualifying
classes where he was placed below a horse that didn't pick up his canter
leads at all and racked like an arthritic camel (mind you, this was a month
after he won the stakes class back in Illinois and Missouri), my friends
dragged me off for a margarita fest lest I murder the judge. Some twenty
gallons of margaritas later, someone got the brilliant idea of dying my
horse to a solid color (highly illegal, btw). We found an all-night
drugstore, got about twenty boxes of Lady Clairol and dyed my horse at about
three in the morning...and later that day, we won the reserve five-gaited
stakes under the same judge that had refused to pin us in the qualifying
amateur class the day before. I was so disgusted that I sold KC to an owner
back east where they were somewhat more (horse) color-blind and bought my
first Arab and started riding distance.

So, moral of the story is yup, you can dye them, but be prepared for the
color to fade out to some pretty weird colors for a month or two afterwards.
KC was a fairly interesting magenta for about a month. <vbg>
