    Howard,

This really is over your head in profundity:)! I am with you 100%. I believe John Wayne said it well in one of his many movies "I don't lay a hand on others, and I expect teh same from them". IOW, I don't expect to have special treatment and I am affronted by those who think they SHOULD simply by virtue of their successes or status or associates or whatever. What is TRULY special to me is an attitude of humility, giving and selflessness. I am not impressed by winners, nor by those who push their way ahead in lines, nor by those who demand "their due". I woudl never DREAM of going in front of another rider in a vet line unless my horse was in immediate need of vet care for some reason. I expect the same of others. This is a SPORTING EVENT - not emergency heart surgery.

I was amused by the reference to baseball players going on strike, since my husband as a college coach continues to place more players in the MAJOR LEAGUSE than any other coach in the nation; yet not one of them to date has been involved in a contract dispute nor have they instigated a picket line. Attitude and respect is so very important - and while personally I have no more respect for the players than the owners in this situation, pushy and selfish people can be found at both LD and 50 mile distances. Right?

When I ride an LD and pay ten or twenty dollars less than what a 50 miler pays, I know I'm paying more per mile than any of the longer distance riders to do my ride.  I don't complain or gripe about it, but I'll be damned if I'll let someone treat me like a second class citizen because my horse has a letter, instead of a number, on his butt.  And when I do 50's, or make the attempt, I would never ever think of passing a 25 miler in line for a vet check.
