    Hi Vanessa

First of all get hold of someone you know that does marathon running. Most
of there training and eating can be applied to yourself and your horse !
Try eating LOTS of pasta the day before (carbo-loading). On the day, I have
a cool box with my crewing stuff with energy drinks, bananas, energy
bars, snack bars, chocolate, potato chips, and some sweets.
It very important to keep eating at every vet check, force yourself to eat
and drink. If you are tired and lack energy, it makes your horses work so
    much harder.

    good luck
