[RC] hungry newbie - sharp penny
Hi Vanessa and welcome to the list!
I'm also a vegetarian :) and while being one sometimes
has it challenges, I don't think food is the problem here.
Oft times that tired feeling comes from dehydration so you
may need to look at that issue. Are you getting enough
fluids in you before , during and after your rides. It's
easy to overlook esp. on training rides...the "I'm only
gonna do a fast 10 today so I won't bother with bringing
water" mentality. I have found adding some emergen-c to my
water helps when I get that "draggy butt" feeling. Worth a
try. I will also carry an Iron Man Energy Bar with me to
nibble on it when my tummy starts to rumble. Unlike a lot
of sports bars it has a 40/30/30 ratio of carbs, proteins
and fat that helps sustain energy. A nice added benefit is
that it makes me thirsty which reminds me to drink more!
The only time I carbo load is before a competition (did
this when I showed as well). I usually can't eat the day of
competing so the carbo loading helps fortify me. Also carbo
loading on a regular basis is hell for those of us that
gain weight just looking at carbs!!!
Regards,
Penny
