I think you are correct, Maggie, although I don't
have a RedCell label right in front of me.  The daily requirement for Se,
according to Oregon State U, is 8-10 mg per day.  We used to figure our
rations at zero in central Oregon as well, and here in central Idaho, we are
also deficient, although not as bad.  Most supplements with SOME selenium
have 1 mg per daily serving, and the "high" selenium supplements only have
2 mg per daily serving.  With the toxic level being 60-90 mg per day
(chronically), you'd have to have near toxic levels in your feed to begin
with for ANY commercial feed supplement to tip the scales, fed at recommended
levels.

In a state like Michigan where we basically have NO
selenium,  you'd have to basically let the horse DRINK the stuff to
get too much.  I think there is only 1 mg. in one ounce of Red Cell
(usually one squirt).  I routinely feed 3 mg a day of my supplement with
  about 1750 IU of E.
