Re: [RC] Pre-Ride VC Issues and a few others - Truman Prevatt

RR -1. CRI at all rides at all Vet Checks NOT AT THE FINISH.

The CRI is an invaluable parameter. It's pretty easy to use. If the starting pulse is low in say 52 or less, it may not be all that useful. But I would prefer to leave it up to the vet to use it if he feels he needs additional data on which to base his decision. I would prefer to have it used at all checks so I have the information. I see no reason not to have this information at the finish.

RR- 2. NO chasing hazing of horses by anyone at the VC to obtain a trot.

Training issue. Let the vet decide which horses are too tired to trot and which are just being pains in the butt. AERC is not FEI - lets not start adopting their vetting criteria.

RR- 3. Fix COMPLETION PULSE to 64 for 50 miles and up (NO more lower 60 pulse= for completion).

At a ride in the SE some time ago I asked our P&R timer to record pulse along with time. The criteria was 64. All but a few horses were less than 60 when presented. I could see very little difference a 60 criteria would have made. I see not reason to use 60 over 64 or 64 over 60. I do hear a lot of ramblings over 60 being better. I sure would like to see some valid scientific experiments run to validate this. But in general I just as soon see a set 64.

RR- 4. Completion time at finish LEFT as is at one hour - includes pulse recov= ery and vet out process. (NOT the 30 minute pulse recovery I have seen at a few rides)

The way I read the rules it is one hour. Until the rules are changes it should be one hour.

RR- 5. More then ONE VC on 50 milers and above. Some standard on the number of VC per mileage and conditions- yes within reason- may not apply= to ALL rides.

This is an issue that should be studied by the vet committee with a recommendation to the board. If there are valid reasons to do this - then it should be done.
