Dunno about pasture potatos, but horses living in confinement and not doing anything else have a pretty high rate--can't remember the exact percentage.  We saw quite a few cases of ulcers in foals raised in box stalls, still on the mares, with mares getting high-concentrate diets.  And they certainly weren't stressed in any other way than confinement and diet.

PS:  And yes, Howard, you can do A LOT to prevent ulcers before they happen, just with good management and good feeding practices.

Seems to me I read that ulcers in humans are being successfully treated with antibiotics, leading many in the medical profession to believe the many ulcers are caused by a infections rather than stress, diet etc.  Which leads me to wonder if the same ulcer test was done on a bunch of pasture-potato horses...would the percentage of "positives" be about the same as performance horses????
