    Some people will tell you wool back is cooler, some will tell you cool back is.  The difference I noticed was that the synthetic, cool back slips on horses with very soft fur, the wool grabs on better.  My bay has more "coarse" hair and the cool back works, the gray has very soft hair and I need the wool back.
