RC: Re: long backed arabians

This conversation has piqued my interest, since I've always thought that my mare, Mahriah, has a somewhat long back, but others have disagreed with me.  She is now 11 years old, and I haven't noticed any acute lameness issues, but she seems to move a tad stiff in back sometimes.  Not really a hock or leg thing though...so I'm wondering if it may be a back/loin thing.  She also was seen by a chiropracter a few months ago since she felt off at an extended trot, and was cross-cantering a lot.  He thought her problem was in her lower neck though, and supposedly fixed it.

Can someone take a look at my webpage with Mahriah's photos and tell me if they think her back is considered long?  The webpage has a little photo album thing on it, and the pictures that show her back are near the end of the slide show.  There's only 10 pics.

Thanks,
Jennifer

I've owned two horses with long backs in my lifetime, one a QH, the other an
Arab. A long back was the weakest point in both horses and I don't
recommended it. Try to find one with a good strong back.

I am contemplating the purchase of a five year old SW Dawid daughter. She
is big boned, large bodied and stands about 15.2(really!) However, she is
long backed for an arab. Perfect for a thoroughbred or a quarter horse.
Is a long backed arab that undesirable for endurance?

Thanks for any thoughts! karen
