For many of us $540 a year is a bargain.  I live in the Boston, MA area and 
my shoes are, yes, this is the truth, $110/set regular and $150/set winter 
(borium).  So my shoes cost $1,000/year/horse.  And I know there are areas 
in the US (Florida in winter) that are more.
