supplementing biotin

    It's raining...again...and I'm figuring out ways
to free up more money to play with..<BG>

I'm currently feeding a biotin supplement called
Farriers Friend...very pricey...only supplies 5.6mg
biotin but 6188mg of methionine. To me the biotin
seems low as there are alot out there with 20mg biotin
but lesser methionine(around 2500 to 3000 mg)

Does any one know what the optimum amt biotin and
methionine recomemded? I have looked through archives
and can't seem to find. Also I have noticed some
products have added lysine as well, others don't. Is
lysine important for quality hoof growth?

What are some of you using to supplement biotin
with and are you happy with the results? I am looking
at Grand Hoof which has 20 mg biotin, 3000 mg
methionine, 1500 mg lysine per 1 oz dose. This roughly
costs about $12.32/month compared to Farriers Friend
at $15.12/month to feed. Nu Hoof costs about
$14.28/month and has 30mg biotin, 1800 mg methionine
and 2000 mg lysine.

Basically I'm looking for the least expensive way
to get/maintain good quality hoof growth. I have had
my filly on Farriers Friend (on the advice of both my
barn manager and farrier) for the past 7 months and I
haven't noticed much of a change in hoof quality. Got
me to comparing hoof supplements and was surprised to
see how little biotin it actually had per serving but
the methionine is the highest of any on the market!

  Thanks
Penny
