I had a similar problem and there is a very nice gel pad that you can buy to go on top of the saddle. It is about 3/4" thick and is very substantial. I can't remember the name of the maker, but you're local tack shop should be able to help. They come for both english and western saddles. They are pricy new ($175), but I have one for sale (english), if you're interested in one used at a substantial discount
