Ancient navicular

Hi All,

Just read an interesting article in the Dec 15 issue, page 376, of Science News about evidence of navicular lesions in the first one-toed horse which lived about 3-3.5 million years ago and even more recent species found in the La Brea tar pits.  The article shows photos and x-rays of navicular bones from a modern horse and a fossil horse from the tar pits.  To read the text online go to www.sciencenews.org and read the featured Turn Your Head and Roar article.   The discussion of navicular is headed by Stress response.
