(I don't consider grade 2 lame sound) on THIS particular ride, you've got to wonder
Sylvia,
Sorry to say I hardly wonder anymore why people do teh cruel and senseless things they do. I DO wonder two things - why this horse was passed as "fit to continue" with a Grade 2 lameness at all. HELLO?? Secondarily and most importantly, perhaps, I am just waiting with bated breath to hear why this horse - and others - are not shod for this kind of endeavor. We wouldn't DREAM of running the Tevis (for people) without shoes (and not just ANY shoes, but the best money could buy) but a person would subject a horse to forced labor without proper protection. I hope and pray it isn't money, because if one cannot afford shoes, then one should not be competing, and in teh end, possibly should not HAVE a horse, as we have seen with young people whose parents thought it was a great hobby for their kids - but the horse is left neglected whilst the youngsters go to movies, dances, etc. These delightful creatures are also a responsibility, and not to be taken lightly.
Of course, it is a close one - I would hate to think it was sheer ignorance - but a horse who finished Grade 2 lameness has an owner who needs a reality check. IMHO.
