Effects of Trailering on horses

Hi guys

Does anybody know if research has been done or if figures exist on what effects trailering has on horses? I know that it has a great effect on how they use their muscles for balancing, but I don't know to what degree. Also, what effect eating and drinking or the lack of it has on their metabolic health. I'm looking for something in the vein of "traveling in a box for 2 hours is equal to riding 20 kms" kinda thing. I know it is subject to things like speed traveled, driver skills, stress level of the individual horse etc. but I would appreciate any kind of input I can get from you.

I'm trying to put together a "how to start" booklet for new members to our club and to endurance riding in general and would like to put some kind of research figures as part of the booklet.

Thanks
Kristene
