Re: Fwd: RC: Funny smelling beet pulp

I wouldn't feed beet pulp with wood in it either, at least not to horses.
Cattle could handle it no problem, but horses aren't as efficient a hindgut
fermenter, and you could wind up with impaction problems.

I had a similar attitude problem with a feed store once. They got pretty
snippy because I was returning a moldy bale of hay and no, "pro-rating" me
for the unused portion wasn't okay with me. The salesgirl told me I could
take my business elsewhere, and I said fine, me AND my $6000 a year feed
budget would be on my way. The manager happened to walk in and fell all
over himself to replace the moldy hay, plus some extra (which I hadn't asked
for) to make up for the fifty miles I'd driven to get there. It's worth
making the owner/manager know you're a good customer and that you have a
legitimate gripe. If they won't bend, you don't want to deal with them,
anyway.

In the meantime, if you don't have a cow to give the 'woody' beet pulp to,
just throw it on the bushes for mulch/compost. Might as well put the
nutrients back into the soil as burn it.
