One relevant point I havn't seen anybody make (and if they have,
then I apologize) is that the *quality* of the hoof and hoof
horn is a genetic trait that varies substantially--and one that
is almost always ignored in modern breeding.  Horses are going
to differ substantially on how well they take to barefootin'
