RE: search and rescue horses

I have recently gotten involved with Search and Rescue. At this point I am
in the process of starting my young Rottie puppy in scenting and trailing.
I have also talked to local horseback search and rescue units. I would very
much like to pursue this as well, but I think my horse needs to mature a
little bit more and I need to do more training with him to get him ready.
There are a couple of good books on horseback SAR. I've also found the
following sites.

http://home.midmaine.com/~tuffcat/ptesar.htm

http://www.texasequusearch.org/

http://www.mpsmc.org/

http://www.nasar.org

http://www.home.earthlink.net/~fencemasters/

Hope that helps.

Levon

Subject: RC: search and rescue horses

With all that has happened and seeing the dogs being used for search and
rescue, I'd like to know if there is anyone on the list who has trained
their dogs and/or their horses in search and rescue. I'd love to know
more about it, if so, and what someone would do to get started in this.
I think this would be a wonderful fullfilling way to enjoy our horses
and our dogs and do a service for the community. Thanks. Debby in
Missouri
