Arab Slaughter Horse Looking For a Home

Suzanne Boyd sboyd1@neo.rr.com
Maybe things are different here in the midwest(Ohio) but on just about any
given Friday you can go to the local(Sugarcreek) meat sale and find a few
nice Arabs in the meat pen. These horses can generally be had for $600 or
even less. While I will agree that not every horse in the meat buyer's pen
should be rescued, you would might have a hard time believing some of the
ones that are there. I don't understand it myself. For instance, in the
last year I have gotten: 1. a 6yr. old registered Bask bred gelding that
is now ridden by an 8 yr. old girl on the local show circuit. 2. an 8 yr.
old registered Half-Arab gelding that is now doing training level dressage
at a prominant local dressage barn and jumping 3 ft. with his 12 yr. old
owner and 3. an 11 yr. old registered Bask bred gelding that is
re-aquainting his 50 some year old owner with trailriding. My girlfriend
has 2 Arabs(one registered, one not) that she got out of the meat pen,
"Sugarcreek Specials" as we call them that are her primary trail horses.
The ones she puts her daughter and husband one. No, we can't save them
all, (and all of them probably shouldn't be saved) but for the ones that
should be saved, what a huge difference it makes. We currently have an 8
or 9 yr.old gelding that needs a home if anyone in NE Ohio is looking for
an Arab. He is a solid 15 hands, large boned, flea-bitten grey. Green
broke, but very kind. A decent rider can handle him at all three gaits.
This horse was literally taken off the meat truck by my kind-hearted
friend(she's now a AQHA person, but grew up with Arabs and just couldn't
let him go. So she pulled him out, tacked him up and walked, trotted and
cantered him around the sale grounds and then just put him on her
trailer.) She only wants what she paid for him, $575. If interested,
please email me at sboyd1@neo.rr.com or call her at 330-866-1571.
