This happened to a friend and I once.  We'd just finished sponging, and the
horses were wet, and we passed some pleasure riders.  They couldn't see the
sponges (who knows if they'd figure it out anyway, as you said) but looked down
their noses and kind of snorted at us.  Meanwhile they were riding double in the
heat on a horse that was close to an 8 on the condition score.
