Re: RC: Re: Stallion Behavior (Long)

Hi all
Well here it comes, another "Hal" story, but it was too funny not to
share.
I used to ride Hal all the time trail with the kids. One time I noticed
Stacie's little pony was in rip-roaring heat--- now Hal was only 4 years
old then--- just reaching his peak puberty-wise and was definitely
interested. I told Stacie to keep her horse out in front, away from us
(no use torturing the boy). Well, I got to talking with the trainer and
not paying attention and all of a sudden she exclaimed that Hal was
dropped and there was Stacie's little pony with her butt right in front
of him. He seemed to be figuring out how he could mount the mare without
hurting the kid. I quickly turned his head, tapped him on the flank with
my crop and told him to "get it up!"
Well he did and was a perfect gentleman for the rest of the ride. I was
later telling Dick Skinner (trainer and manager of the Hearst Ranch for
ages) about the situation--- I was VERY proud of Hal's restraint. He
looked at me and said, well, Bette, with your looks I'm sure you've had
plenty of experience handling men." I said "Yes, but if I'd have told
them to "get it up" it would have had a VERY different effect!"
It's all in the context! ;-)
