I guess nothing is realy new, the very first car that was my own, in the mid
1960's was a 1951 DeSoto that wes equiped with "Fluid Drive".  You had to
use the clutch to put it into first or reverse but otherwise it was an
automatic.  This was the biggest uglyist car I have ever owned, but it was
very safe just because of its
size.  I learned to drive on a standard trany and have always prefered them,
evan when I lived in the big city.
