Re: RC: GPS Filet Mignon

The digital compass is nice. It too has a wart or two. I have the Suunton varity.
An Electronic compass seems to be more prone to interference with sources of
electromagnetic energy, like overhead lines, etc. Also I have found that if I'm
around a computer alot - hey I use them daily since they have replaced the slide
rule - it wall cause the digital compass to go out of calibration.

But when that happens it is pretty obvious and it is pretty easy to recal them.
If I am going seriouly out into the woods I carry also two good old fashion
floating needle in liquid compasses with me. I always carry a regular compass in
my pack on an endurance ride.

While a sextan is a pain in the butt to use, it works quite well without a
battery.

PS I can just hear it now someplace out in the middle of western Nebraska this
June, "my kingdom for a battery."
