Re: Panacur nightmare?

I think you need to really worry about laminitis. Monitor the digital pulse
and hoof temp. constantly.
A friends horse went through this and foundered very badly. She will never
be usable again.

Sorry to add to your worries, but if you are diligent you may be able to
prevent a crisis.

rotated wormers for the first time about 4-5 days ago and used panacur.
Though my mare was having a reaction to flybites, until this morning she was
lumpy everywhere, had exudate running from several open places and had huge
pockets of edema all over her body. Vet came out, 20 mg of steriod,
antihistamines twice a day, and povidine washes. Thinks it was a bad allergy
to something. We moved into our new place two weeks ago, so everything is
new, but the panacur really stands out in my mind, as it was dosed the day
before this started and Mosh has never had it before. Vet says to watch for
laminitis from the steriod, and to call if not better in two days and much
better in five. How worried about laminitis should I be.
> Also vet said not to feed bermuda because of impaction. Hmm. I guess I
won't be doing that CTR in two weeks. Mare looks hideous and miserable. Must
be carrying at least 20 pounds in edema.
