Re: RC: Cosequin or bust?

Hi Linda
Not only did my horse do well on it, but I put my father-in-law on it as
well and he said it diminished his back pain. The cost is pretty steep
but it does have things that Flex Free and some of the others don't
have.
I have to say, however, that Dr. Charlie Boles (Olympic vet and vet to
the race horses at Flag Is Up) thinks they are all about the same so far
as the Chondroitin sulfate is concerned. Perhaps because it is more
expensive, it had a psychological effect on healing better. I don't know
for sure, but it seems my horses seem to feel better the more money I
spend on them!;-)

The marketing line seems to be, "Cosequin is the only brand that uses the high purity, low molecular weight chondroitin sulfate that has been studied for absorption. Lower molecular weight means the particle size of the molecule is smaller and more easily absorbed by the digestive system than other less pure forms of chondroitin sulfate." (Nutramax Web Site www.cosamin.com) Dig out those old chemistry textbooks and blow the dust off. Help me out here. Can a molecule of chondroitin sulfate in Cosequin differ in molecular weight than a molecule of chondroitin sulfate from a different product? Another question? Has anybody noticed a difference in their horse since using Cosequin? How about any other products?
