Re: Old Horses



I worked on a research project where I helped necropsy a number of wild mustangs that were found dead and at least two of those had a bowel torsion that had undoubtedly killed them.  Lots of evidence of sole bruising, a couple of broken legged horses that apparently starved to death.  Depending on what kind of forage they got into (like somebody's growing alfalfa field somewhere), there is nothing that protects mustangs from the same diseases domestic horses get.  Domestic horses just get them more often because of the 'intensive' manner in which the majority are kept.

I have my mares pastured 25/8 (hee hee)
I have had them in 3 days this winter in a barn only because we don't have blankets.
