Re: Boz saddle

Hi,
A few years ago, I considered the Boz. After several telephone calls to him
and several hours of talking (he is really long winded), I decided against
the saddle. Not for any reason but that he would not agree to a refund if I
did not like the saddle. And it was impossible to get a trial saddle, for
many reasons, some of which seemed reasonable. I would advise that before
you switch to a western style saddle, you try to borrow one or at least ride
in one a few times. I ordered a wonderful western saddle (custom made for
my horse) from a well known saddle maker in Wyoming. (John Fallis balanced
saddles). After a six month wait it arrived. BEAUTIFUL saddle, a work of
art. But, I could not make myself enjoy a western saddle. They are very
heavy and bulky and I could not feel my horse the way I can in an English
style saddle. Definitely not for me. I was too embarrassed to let the saddle
maker know that I was unhappy with such a wonderful saddle that fit my horse
like a glove. After about six months, I wrote to him to ask if he had a
customer who did not want to wait six months and for whom the saddle might
be a fit. I offered to sell it to them at great discount. He responded
immediately that he would be happy to take the saddle back for full refund
as he had several customers who would love the saddle. He was true to his
word. This was a $2200 saddle.
I tell you this only so that you do not have the experience I did. Also to
advise that you try to learn of the integrity and business practices of
whomever you decide to do business with. Good luck with your saddle search.
Pat

Since we have moved to the west and I do more hill riding than there is in
Cleveland I am thinking about going Western. What do you think of the Boz -
and which one would you suggest?
