I couldn't confirm it myself, but have talked to numerous people in Erope
and UK that have mentioned the same thing, though I would tend to be fairly
cautious about feeding alot of it in the raw state, when it still has a high
sucrose content.

There are still *plenty* of sugar beets grown in Colorado, the field 100
yards away from my house is a dumping ground for the local harvest every
fall.  The roar of them being loaded into trucks has permanantly
desensitized my dogs to  thunder.<g>  I always go swipe a few beets from the
pile, chop them up and hand them out as treats to the horses.
