CROSS TRAINING (DRIVING)

After two years of CTR some competitors suggested
driving in that it would strengthen my Arab gelding's
rear and teach him to use it. It really did improve the
ride!

Much to my surprise, we both enjoyed driving and
began to appreciate Combined Driving Events (CDE)
as a horse and driver TEAM effort. As in Distance
Riding the horse must be responsive and in good
physical condition. In addition, the driver must
plan strategy for cones and hazards to get through
them in the fastest time with the fewest faults.

My experience in CDEs for the year 2000 was
described in an article for the American Driving
Society's publication "The Whip". An updated
article is now available on our website.

If you are looking for a new challenge I encourage
you to read "Adventures of a 70 Year-old Rookie Driver".
