I have used a bike helmet to ride horses before.  Someone once told me that a 
bike helmet should work fine because they are designed for bikers who are 
usually riding on pavement...so they should work fine for horse riders who 
usually are on some kind of dirt.  
It seems to me that bike helmets would work for horse riding.  They seem to 
be a bit more aerodynamic than regular horse helmets.  That is really the 
only difference I see.
